Axxiom Dance Collective

HISTORY

Axxiom Dance Collective was founded in 2002 by Joei Waldron after gathering together a few dancers he met at San Diego City College to perform at a local event. Axxiom started out as a hip hop based dance company and in early 2003, Waldron added modern, African and contemporary dance to the mix. Now, Axxiom is not just hip hop dance company but rather a company that does it all. Axxiom’s style is a mixture of many dance genres but remains rooted in hip hop and modern dance.

Under Waldron’s direction, Axxiom has become one of the most recognized dance companies in Southern, California. Axxiom has performed throughout San Diego in addition to performing in venues located in Los Angeles, Arizona, Scotland and Spain.

Waldron has created many dances for the company, including Windows Within (2005) which received critical acclaim for its deep exploration of inner relationships of couples, Strife (2006), which examined family relations, Awet (2005), which was described by San Diego dance critic Kris Eitland, as an "ambitious well directed look back at the Rwanda Genocide of 1994" and Dead Hearts (2011), which looks into the devastating affects bullying has on its victims.

Axxiom is currently based in San Marcos, Ca. In 2011, Axxiom 2 was founded by Waldron and is based in Los Angeles. Both companies are committed to bringing the highest level dance to as many communities as possible.

MISSION

Axxiom’s mission is to bring the highest level of dance to all communities and simultaneously teach, develop, and perform meaningful dances that speak to audiences worldwide.
